UTI Testing: What Your Results Mean and When to Get Checked

Burning when you pee? Needing to go every five minutes? You might have a urinary tract infection (UTI). The good news is, it’s easy to diagnose—and even easier to treat—with a simple UTI test.

At Airline Care Clinic, we offer walk-in UTI testing every Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., no appointment needed. Here’s how it works and what your results actually mean.

What Is a UTI?

A UTI is an infection in your urinary system—usually the bladder. It’s more common in women but can affect anyone. If left untreated, a UTI can spread to the kidneys and cause serious problems.

Common Symptoms of a UTI:

  • Burning or pain while urinating

  • Frequent urge to urinate, even if little comes out

  • Cloudy, dark, or strange-smelling urine

  • Lower abdominal pressure or discomfort

  • Occasional fever or chills (if infection is more severe)

How the Test Works:

UTI testing involves a urine sample. At our clinic, we use a dipstick test that checks for:

  • White blood cells (WBCs) – signs of infection

  • Nitrites – a marker produced by certain bacteria

  • Blood – may appear if your bladder is irritated

Results are usually available in minutes, and if infection is confirmed, you’ll leave with a treatment plan that same day.

What the Results Mean:

  • Positive Test: Indicates an infection is present. You’ll likely be prescribed antibiotics.

  • Negative Test: No clear signs of infection. We may look into other causes of your symptoms, such as dehydration or a different type of infection.

  • Trace Findings: Sometimes a retest or further lab work is needed, especially if symptoms are still strong.

When to Get Checked:

Don’t wait if you’re feeling uncomfortable. Come in if you experience symptoms, especially:

  • Painful urination

  • Pressure or cramps in your lower belly

  • Recurrent urges to pee

  • Symptoms that don’t go away in 24–48 hours

Clinic Hours:

  • Walk-ins welcome Tuesdays, 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
